Our trip to New Zealand, Australia and China

Our 2018 trip to New Zealand, Australia and China with Dad, Mom & my sister made so many good memories for our family.

Favourites

Our trip to Australia, New Zealand and China was really fun! One of my favourite parts were the Ruakuri Caves because it was interesting how there were so many rock formations. The tour guide taught our group a way to remember the difference between stalactites and stalagmites. Stalactites hold on tight to the roof of the cave  while stalagmites are like mites on the ground.

Another one of my favorites was the Great Barrier Reef. This is because all the fish were so beautiful. I only wish there was a bit more coral but the ones that we did see were really colourful. There was an marine biologist on board the boat that we had to take to get to the Agincourt Reef area. They explained why the coral were dying. They also explained the different types of coral. There is sponge, staghorn and brain. It was amazing when we saw a sea turtle! There were provided snorkels and lycra suits which protected us from jellyfish stings. There weren’t any when we went but there is a chance they can appear. It was the very first I have visited one of the seven wonders of the world.

Also, it was wonderful when we went luging in Rotorua. It was a new experience because I had never went luging alone before. The view was totally worth the short ride up the gondola. We went down three times. Twice we went down the main route and once on the scenic route. The first half of the first ride down was a bit hard so we went slower but on the second half we started racing down. You could see the gigantic expanse of the city below.

Finally, the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie is definitely one of my favourites. The ice cream they sold was enormous. They had a huge variety of chocolates. They had everything from milk chocolate to dark chocolate. They even had a meter long bar of chocolate! There was a nice outdoor area where we could run around for a while. I liked when I got to hold a koala in the Kuranda Koala Gardens. There were also wallabies there to see.

Least Favourites

There were a few things I disliked. One was the Waitomo Cave. This is because the line up was long and the boat ride was only about 5 minutes. There were some glow worms but the experience wasn’t as good as I thought (because it is the more famous of the caves we visited).

Also, zorbing at OGO wasn’t as fun as it could have been because the sidewinder got really hot because we did the dry version(the inner layer of the ball does not fill with water). There is a wet one but we decided not to do it because we started the day with it and didn’t want to be wet for the whole day. The straight was a better experience because it was less hot. Also, there was a lot of driving between Kuranda and Cairns.

Overall Opinion

The trip was a great experience. There were only a few things I disliked which didn’t cover up all the fun things that we did during our three and a half week trip. We got to visit two of the seven world wonders, the Great Wall of China which is one of the New Seven World Wonders and The Great Barrier Reef which is one of the Natural Seven World Wonders.
