How am I inspired by the Notre Dame fire

On April 14 2019 a massive fire broke out at the 850 year old Notre Dame Paris. Its construction began in 1163 and took almost 200 years to finish. It was a must see when visiting Paris. During the fire its iconic spire fell. Luckily they were able to put out the fire before there was colossal damage and saved the main structure of the building with its two bell towers. It is the most famous of the Gothic cathedrals from the Middle Ages and is recognized for its size, antiquity, and architectural beauty. The building is 226 foot high almost as tall as the 300 foot tall Eiffel tower. It was a beautiful building so people will try to restore it, but it will never be the same. Also, King Henry VI was crowned King of England at Westminster Abbey on November 6 1429, aged 7, followed by his own coronation as King of France at Notre Dame de Paris on December 16 1431, aged 10. Napoleon also had his coronation at the Cathedral. This building was so beautiful before the fire happened.
There will be many more beautiful buildings that will eventually be destroyed. Our family hopes to visit them before that happens.

Madonna della Corona Sanctuary near Verona

One of these is Madonna della Corona Sanctuary near Verona. It is also a church. It is on mountainside and has beautiful views of the nearby lake. Also, it was created in 1625. In 1974, the church was partly demolished and reconstructed, with provisions made to preserve some of its more significant parts, with work finally completed in 1978. It was made a minor Basilica at that time.

The Colosseum

Want to see the Colosseum - inspired by Notre Dame Fire
Did you know that The Colosseum was actually named after the Colossus of Nero?

The Colosseum’s foundations were laid way back in 72 AD, and the construction was completed in just eight years under the watch of emperors Vespasian and Titus. Vespasian started the construction and Titus completed it. It was built from stone and concrete by tens of thousands of slaves. The Colosseum dates back 1950 years ago. The condition of the building is pretty good for it’s age. Also, it is almost entirely like the original building. There haven’t been many renovations on it since the creation. It’s is definitely a historic building and a must see in Rome and even Lazio (the province that Rome is in) It is an oval shape and it measures 189m long, 156m wide and 50m high (about the height of a 12 storey building). This ancient sporting arena could easily fit a modern day football pitch inside! The Colosseum has 80 entrances and enough room for 50,000 spectators. The famous building held gladiatorial battles, wild animal hunts, chariot races and naval battles.

The Parthenon at Acropolis

I know that the building is already in ruins, but the part that is remaining is beautiful.

Travel to Parthenon - inspired by Notre Dame Fire
Did you know that the roof of the Parthenon was made of wood? The roof is now non-existent.

It was built in 447 BC. The Parthenon’s measurement is 111 feet by 228 feet, or 30.9 meters by 69.5 meters. The way it was destroyed it blew up! In the late 1600’s, the Venetians and Turks were fighting over Athens. Acropolis was used as a military point because of it’s high position. There were explosives stored in the Parthenon that went off and blew up the interior of the Parthenon. Also, building the Parthenon cost the same as 469 war ships. It cost 469 silver talents. One silver talent being worth a trireme which was the most advanced warship at the time. On the exterior, the Doric columns measure 1.9 meters (6.2 feet) in diameter and are 10.4 meters (34 feet) high. The corner columns are slightly larger in diameter. The Parthenon had 46 outer columns and 23 inner columns in total, each column containing 20 flutes (a flute is the concave shaft carved into the column form). The great building is one of the Seven New World Wonders. The Parthenon is dedicated to the Greek goddess Athena. Athena is the goddess of wisdom, civilization, mathematics, warfare, city defense, strategic, law and justice, crafts, the arts, and skill. She is often portrayed as a companion of heroes and is the patron goddess of heroic endeavour. Athena is the daughter of Zeus and Metis. Her Roman form is Minerva. The glory of the Parthenon was the gigantic statue of Athena designed and sculpted by Phidias and made out of elephant ivory and gold. It was dedicated in 439 or 438 BC.
