Walt Disney World is shaking things up for 2025 with a new hotel cancellation policy that will have you rethinking your travel plans. Starting January 1, 2025, guests booking room-only reservations will need to cancel at least eight days before their arrival date to snag a full refund. That’s a bump up from the current five-day notice, so mark your calendars accordingly.
Why the change, you ask? Well, it could be linked to some exciting updates on the horizon for Disney Genie+. In a cryptic post back in May 2023, Disney hinted at allowing guests to plan their Genie+ service and individual Lightning Lane selections in advance for visits in 2024.
The goal? To cut down on planning time and amp up the fun with your crew. While Disney is keeping mum on the specifics, word on the street is that Genie+ reservations may be up for grabs seven days in advance. And that’s where the new eight-day cancellation policy may prevent Genie+ reservations for stays that are then canceled.
So, what’s the deal with the current cancellation policy through 2024? To score a refund of your deposit, you’ll need to give Disney the heads up at least five days before your arrival date. You can cancel or tweak your reservation by phone or online, but keep in mind that dining reservations won’t get the boot unless you give the green light.
But enough about the nitty-gritty details of cancellation policies – let’s talk about the good stuff. Starting in 2025, hotel guests will be treated to a water park admission to either Typhoon Lagoon Water Park or Blizzard Beach as part of their stay. That’s right, splash-tastic fun awaits!
